It’s been a terrific two years at the Chestnut building but it is time for Ground Floor Gallery + Studios to be moving on up–the street that is, our new address will be 942 4th Ave South. Please come to visit one last time before the big move to see “Meet of the Matter” by Jake Weigel before it comes down on the 24th. As before, we will be participating regularly in the Arts & Music @ Wedgewood/Houston events and reopening with “Utopia” by Culture Laboratory Collective in July. We are adding 1200+ sqft and have more studios available to like-minded artists. Contact Janet @ 615-478-1467 for details.

An eclectic mix of new work by studio artists Heidi Martin KusterMandy BrownAnne Daigh and Janet Decker Yanez all come together this month in “Open…” at Ground Floor Gallery + Studios. The exposition moves easily between texture, form, and colorful word play. Kuster continues with her examination of the surface, shape, and evolution of rocks in subtle abstract oil paintings. Brown explores acrylic paint skin to create colorful small scale compositions full of contemporary conversation.

Daigh pieces torn maps and newsprint together into whimsical plant and animal collages. Yanez cleverly invites the viewer to consider the changing form of female breasts in her installation Chest Bored.  Cracks, folds, tears and wrinkles co-exist in a tactile banter between four artists all considering space, time, and personal history through recycled media.      Written by Heidi Martin Kuster

The Todd Art Gallery presents: The 2nd Nashville Art Gallery Expo
February 20–March 13, 2014
Opening Reception–Wednesday, February 19, 2014, 5-7 p.m.
Todd Hall, room 224A

Nashville’s influence on the Middle Tennessee region is untold, culturally, its artistic influence equally strong. The second gallery expo acknowledges that influence. More importantly, it recognizes a fine arts community ablaze in transition and accomplishment.

With that in mind, this expo incorporates non-traditional art spaces that have emerged over the last few years to become important contributors to the Nashville and Middle Tennessee art world. Those art spaces participating include Ground Floor Gallery and Seed Space. Far from being pushed aside Nashville’s traditional art gallery venues remain strong with Cumberland Gallery, the Arts Company, LeQuire Gallery, and Zeitgiest Art Gallery represented during the expo.

An opening reception is scheduled Wednesday, February 19, 2014, 5-7 p.m.

The Todd Art Gallery is open Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m-4:30 p.m. All exhibits, receptions, and lectures are free and open to the public. For questions, directions, or parking contact Eric V. Snyder at 615-898-5653 or email: eric.snyder@mtsu.edu.
